Book Review #002
Title: For One More Day
Author: Mitch Albom
Genre: Philosophical Novel
Rating: 5/5
It’s quite some time I read a book so invigorating, fascinating enough to make me awake in the middle of pure darkness, befriended by a modest half heartedly shining LED lighting
If you like Mitch’s Tuesdays With Morrie, than you will love For One More Day even more, and if there is no movie yet inspired by this, then… what a shame (and yes, there is a movie with same title)
Again, Mitch idea of flirting with death brought the story to life. Mitch met Charley a.k.a Chick on one faithful day, hence, Chick’s raging and turbulent past laid bare
What intriguing about this book is how smooth and effortlessly Mitch flip flopping between current and past events without denigrating the whole narratives.
Chick’s failed second suicide attempt landed him in a surreal environment, meeting his dead mother, in a long forgotten home, surrounded by suspicious characters, used to be part of his diminishing memories.
While the narratives circled around Chick, his thoughts and obsessions, for me, the real hero of this topsy turvy story was Posey, Chick’s mother. Her courage and challenges were relatable. She was the epitome of a strong, over-your-face, practical, and yet loving and tender woman
I came across several good quotes, just to share
Going back to something is harder than you think
The more you defend a lie, the angrier you become
This book… it is a ‘real’ life story, real people with real challenges. In short, everyday people, you and me
Read it to the last page, where it all makes sense
Recommended!
p/s: Btw, I’m not going to watch the movie and ruin everything
